After 4 months of
recovery the loggerhead injured on July 11, 2003 was returned to
Fripp Island on November 07, and released back to the sea. After being
rescued on July 11, the turtle was taken to the
SC Aquarium in Charleston where the injured flipper was amputated.
In the intervening months "Shark Bite"
(as it has been named by the staff at the aquarium) was feeding aggressively,
had
gained 17 lbs.
and adapted quickly to living with a missing flipper.

More than 100 people lined the beach to wish "Shark Bite" well and thank Rachel Metz, Nigel Bowers and all the other members of the SC Aquarium and the SCDNR Marine Turtle Conservation Program for their efforts. |
