Nest 2 was found today at the far north end of the Island. The nest was up
against the rocks and mama wasted no time; in & out pretty quick.
Cyndi found the eggs and was
assisted by Janie & I in relocating 147 eggs from nest to south of
POA 2
in a higher location.
Renate spotted the tracks and you could tell she had found a nest by her
excitement as we approached her. Rich Combes helped me retrieve the stakes &
poles.

eggs in a spot that did not need to be moved. The nest was found by Kelly
Taylor, Kathy Agee, Sam Taylor, Alexandra Iriarte, and Megan Maule. Special

outgoing tracks, identified a body pit, and called it in. Bob F. &Tony N.
located the nest and left it "in situ" as it was more than 9 hours old and
therefore, between handling and transporting the eggs, subject to movement
induced mortality. It will most likely be relocated after the two week
incubation period.

Friday, June 24th from Cyndi White
Nest 40 POA 2 left "in situ". We followed all the tracks, then
continued on our walk, thinking there was not a nest. One turtle came in near
the rock wall, went in and out of the tidal pool twice, went next to the dunes
but then turned (she could have gone two more feet before turning and had a
great nesting spot), walked all around, leaving a few "turn around spots" with
the last one looking a little like it could be a nest, but then she went the
longest way possible back to water (going east instead of north). We probed the
last area after finishing our walk without finding anything, then decided to
remove a layer of sand because the sand was softer in that area. We found the
nest-the top of the nest was 18" deep! We left it "in situ", but will need to
monitor it closely for hatchlings since it's so far from the water. Janie,

her 1st stop, we would not have had to move the 137 eggs.

was quite deep. Janie successfully located eggs. 103 eggs were relocated to
crossover #5, plus one egg for research. The team was

above the high tide line, then made her turn, then there was a large body pit
with a lot of thrown sand and old wrack. Surprisingly, Martha found the nest
between the turn and the body pit!! Mama almost fooled us! 125 eggs were
relocated to similar deep nest on a dune at access #17. And 1 egg given to Janie
for DNA research. Martha and Dickie and Betsy K.

search, Dickie, Martha and Kathy pulled 6-8 inches of sand off the area and
Kathy found the eggs outside of the body pit on the incoming side. We relocated
86 eggs to a sand dune just north of the original nest. There were no broken
eggs and one egg went to Janie for DNA. Janie brought us the supplies.

Phyllis Conrad and Betsy R. probed along with Mary; Janie walked the rest of the
zone while probers worked; Dick and Sally Work assisted and Dick brought
supplies to the site; many visitors and interested parties! Another great turtle

Nest 54 (tying the 2003 record!!) was found this morning
between POA 3 and 4, just below the dune where Nest 50 is located. We moved 99
eggs to a similar dune just south of that. (one egg for DNA research)
Judy D. and I were probing in the body pit between
ghost crab holes when she reminded me of Marilyn Fleming's rule - look one pace
in from where the out tracks leave the body pit. I probed there twice and found
the nest!! Marilyn would have been proud of us.

there were three-crab hole surrounding a reed where someone had marked the nest,
so we found the eggs on the first probe. One egg had a
long, white "thread" attached to it.

Nest 56 found south of POA 3. Our mama turtle crawled between
two nests up on a sand dune and made two body pits. We found a lot of loose
grass in the second body pit. On the second probe, Rich C. found the eggs. Mama
climbed over a palmetto stump before she crawled back into the sea. We left the
nest “in situ”. One egg went to Janie for research.

dune and laid her nest. After a lot of probing by Betsy, Christina, Rich and
Martha, Dickie B. probed in an area that had not been probed and found the eggs.
We left the nest “in situ”. One egg went to Janie for research. We thank Dickie

Nest 62 between POA 9 and POA 10. Members of the Eyler family
found the mama's tracks last night, and young John led us to them. The mama
walked a long, circuitous track until finally making her nest. Christina probed
a few times and located the eggs. We told her it was her birthday nest. We moved
93 eggs to a dune near POA 6. One egg was taken for research. There were 2 young
girls and a mom who walked with us this morning, and they were thrilled to see

Nest 63 in front of the John Fripp Villas South. The nest
was just above the high tide line from last night - very high with the full
moon. The eggs were actually laying in water in the nest, which kept caving in
while Martha was rescuing the eggs. 78 eggs were relocated to a dryer spot on a
dune by POA access #16. (One broken egg for DNA research) We also met a man who
was on the beach and watched this Mama do her awesome thing between 3 and 5 this
morning. He was tired but happy to tell us about his experience!! Another great

Nest 65 Between POA 20 and POA 21, there was a well
defined body pit with a ghost crab hole near the middle. A wise man standing
there said "Ghost crabs don't lie, dig there!". So I dug there and there and
there....turns out that today, the ghost crabs DID lie. I finally found the top
of the egg chamber on the other side of the body pit, very deep. We left the
nest 'in situ'.

Nest 68 It's ironic that I have to report Nest 68. This
nest knocks me out of the lead for the pot, putting Jim Wolbrink in the money.
Today's shopping spree with the winnings has been cancelled. Janie found the
nest after seeing a huge crab hole in the turn-around area of the false crawl
from yesterday. She probed once and hit eggs! One had been broken by the crabs,
so we used it for DNA. We had to leave it in situ and hope the high tides won't
get it before two weeks go by. Our last nest was on July 18. In the record year
from this decade, the last nest was on August 7. Cyndi (just south of POA 2
