Found an orphaned baby Opossum??
Then immediately contact the nearest Rehabilitator, Vet, or Natural resources Dept. for help.... Do Not Delay.... The longer you wait, the less chance the baby has of surviving... DON'T try to care for babies, without help, if you've never successfully raised Opossums before.

Arrived 02 March - These little ones were orphaned when their mother was attacked by a dog... Though the mother escaped, she lost six of her babies... They were delivered to our Vet's office who tried to get them to us.... Since we were out of town and no other rehabber was available, the Vet's staff did what they could to keep them alive till we returned...
4 Days After They Were Found - Though not trained in the special needs of Opossum babies, the girls did a wonderful job keeping them alive till we returned... Unfortunately one didn't survive which left the five pictured above... They average 30 Grams in weight.

Arrived 09 April - Ice Cream is a young female.... She is 2-3 weeks older than the first five arrivals..... She was found wondering under cars in the TCBY Ice Cream parking lot.....
Arrived 13 April - The three dark Opossum in this food fight, were orphaned when their mother was attacked by a dog.... Unfortunately, we don't know the fate of the mother or the remaining babies since she escaped from the dog and ran into the woods..

Arrived 26 April - along with a sister and brother...... These three are also orphans because some careless dog owner failed to control their animal. Unfortunately, this little girl's siblings failed to survive..... She's still too young to put in with the larger group so, we put two of the smaller black opossums in with her for company and warmth.
Old Fuzzy Bedroom Slippers - make a great substitute pouch when mama isn't around anymore..... There are 2 additional babies in this shoe... These are 5 of our, at last count, 10 babies....

Can't you see I'm trying to sleep here?? - sleepy eyed and ears drooping area a sure sign this girl has been sleeping... Their ears droop until they are fully awake then they will stand straight up....
Ok, move over and make room.. - Though they have enough boxes that they could spread out, they seem to like sleeping in a pile.... Guess we could take all but one box out and they'd never miss it... Many of these opossums are very close to release age and will soon be set free to live life as Mother Nature had intended....
