And then there was one... - This little girl was one of a litter of nine. A kind hearted gentleman found the dead mother and realized the babies were still alive. He put them in the shade while he looked for someone that could care for them. Unfortunately, babies are extremely sensitive to temperature and cannot maintain their own body heat. After being exposed to a cool evening, the babies got extremely cold and in spite of Dixie's efforts to warm and hydrate them up, hypothermia had done it's damage. Her siblings all passed away within 48 hours. Unexplainable, this little girl has pulled through.
In this corner, weighing in at 19 Grams - She's a real fighter. Dixie has to feed her every two hours. In these pictures, she's been with us for about a week. She's 4-5 weeks old and her eyes are just starting to open. It's hard to believe that in just a few months, this tiny little opossum will weigh in at 7-10 pounds.
You don't have to yell, I can hear you just fine. - Lupee, as she's now called, has been here a little over 5 weeks. As you can see, she has grown quite a bit since the pictures above were taken. She's unusually light in color and has a set of ears that rival Dumbo the Elephant. She has a sweet disposition and I'm not sure who loves who the most, Dixie or Lupee....
