Squirrels Of The Nursery
Last Update -

Come on sis, let's
get outta here..
"Are they Twins????"...no, actually they are brother and sister.. There were three, unfortunately, we lost the smaller male of the group.. Paul and Paula are strong and doing well.. These little ones are 4-6 weeks old and, though still nursing, will chew on a fresh pecan. They arrived the 25th of August.

I can hide under my tail.
Dataw, named she came from....Dataw Island. She's the victim of man's destruction of wild life habitat to build over priced Condos...... We don't know if there were an others in the nest, she was all that was found after dozers pushed over the tree she was in......Her eyes opened a about a week after she came to us.....She Arrived the 29th of August.

Ok, where's the chow ???
Frick and Frack, came from Paul Kent... This is the second time this season he's ended up with orphans... These boys are doing fine and should be among the 1st to make a late fall release day...They joined us on the 9th of September.

Keeping Warm Times Two.
Cindy, the smaller of this pair came to us from the Battery Creek Vet Hospital... The larger one is Dataw. His job is to help keep her warm. Seem a man cutting grass found her.. Lucky for her he was watching where he was cutting... She came in on the 9th of September also.

My what little teeth you have
Flying Squirrels, are much smaller than Grays and are far more delicate. These little ones started out as five, came to us as four, and now are down to three....Nocturnal in the wild, most people have never seen squirrels like them.. Oh and, No, they don't actually fly, they glide on the flaps of skin that stretches between their legs. They came to us on the 29th of September.

My, You look like you've seen a ghost!!
A Very Rare Treat indeed, White as a snow flake, this little Flying Squirrel is Easy prey for Owls and Cats... Without his natural colors as camouflage, he stands little chance of surviving in the wild. In fact, he was saved from sure death when he was taken from a cat. He's about 10-12 weeks old and it's a miracle he has survived this long. He came to us on the 13th of December.

I'll Be Back !!
Arnie, short for Arnold Swatzacoon. Named by our friends Beth and Charlie in Missouri because we had to give him steroids.... Why steroids?... Well Arnie is recovering from a severe blow to the head. Steroids are used to reduce swelling and increase odds of survival. Though we're not sure, we suspect Arnie is an example Animal Abuse by a Human. He is slowly recovering but he may never fully regain vision in his right eye or full use of his right legs.... He came to us on the 10th of December.

Your thumb tastes better than mine.
Cookie , is a Florida Raccoon... She is 10-12 weeks old. She and 3 siblings were orphaned when their mother encountered the wheels of an automobile... Cookie was saved from Euthanasia in Florida and brought to us by Heather Comstock from North Charleston. The thumb is her security blanket but her back foot will do if a thumb isn't available.... She has been adjusting nicely to her new surrounding since the 3rd of January
